Producers COMPARE their movie with similar ones to financiers. “Comps.”
You’re supposed to compare your movie to well-known hits. In the spirit of honesty, I threw in “cult” hits. To give you a true sense (not only how much $ it can make).
I split the comps into the three genres the story falls under:
- Love Story/Comedy/Mythical
- Dance
- Erotica
First, the story was inspired by…
I. Source Material
Second, “Eroso & Amara Sol” is like:
II. The Comps
1. Love Story/Comedy/Magical-Realism
A. “Comedy of Remarriage” Sub-genre of Love Story

B. Rising Star vs. Aging Star Story Line
2. Dance
3. Erotica
A. Cutting Edge Erotica
B. Romantic Erotica

4. A Movie Series

“Amara Sol” is a movie series. Like the “Three Colors” trilogy by Krzysztof Kieślowski.
‘Liberté, égalité, fraternité‘ is the motto of the French republic, and the premise behind the “Three Colors” trilogy. (Blue, White, and Red are also the colors of the French flag.) What I love about this trilogy: it finds a mystical hope in desolate times.
“Amara Sol” is more unified in its narrative (like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings). But similar mission: to suggest an antidote (ultimately from Plato) for the modern agenda (as Stephen Toulmin describes in Cosmopolis).
5. Retells a Greek Myth for Modern Times
To my knowledge, this combo hasn’t graced the screen. I know I’m biased, it’s gonna kick ass.
